Skill courses of a few weeks or months, separate from the two-year NCVT trades.

Besides the two-year NCVT trades, the institute takes part in the central skilling schemes. These are short courses — weeks rather than years — and they are open to people who are already working, not only to school leavers.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

Rooftop solar — installation, wiring and maintenance

A Government of India scheme to put solar panels on household rooftops across the country, with a central subsidy for the household. The rollout needs a large number of trained people to survey roofs, install and wire panels, and maintain the systems afterwards — which is where an ITI comes in. Training suits anyone with an electrical background, and Electrician trainees in particular.

Who it is for: School leavers, working electricians and wiremen who want solar as an additional skill.

For artisans and craftspeople in traditional trades

A central scheme for people already working with their hands and tools in eighteen recognised traditional occupations — carpenter, blacksmith, goldsmith, potter, cobbler, tailor, mason, boat builder, basket weaver and others. Registered artisans receive skill training, support towards a toolkit, and access to collateral-free credit. The benefits are as notified by the scheme and are paid by the Government, not by the institute.

Who it is for: Practising artisans and craftspeople, 18 years and above, working in one of the eighteen listed trades.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana — short-term skill courses

The flagship skilling scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Short-term courses of a few weeks lead to a nationally recognised certificate, aligned to the National Skills Qualifications Framework. Candidates who already have a skill but no certificate can have it assessed and certified instead of sitting the full course.

Who it is for: School leavers and young people looking for a certified skill quickly, without committing to a two-year trade.
