Who we are
Government ITI Canning I, running under PTP, was established in 2016 at Tangrakhali, near Bankim Sardar College, approximately 7 km from Canning Town, South 24 Parganas. The institute provides vocational training to over 300 students across eight trades, equipping local youth with practical skills for employment.
The institute sits at Tangrakhali, near Bankim Sardar College, roughly seven kilometres from Canning town in the South 24 Parganas district. It serves a catchment of villages and small towns where a technical certificate is often the most direct route from school to steady work, and where a great many trainees are the first in their family to hold one.

What we do
The institute delivers training under the Craftsman Training Scheme. Each trade follows the syllabus notified by the Directorate General of Training, and trainees sit the All India Trade Test conducted through the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Training. Those who pass receive a National Trade Certificate, recognised by employers and by government recruiting bodies throughout India.
A working day is built around the workshop. Trainees spend the greater part of it on practical work at the bench, the machine or the installation, supported by trade theory, workshop calculation and science, engineering drawing, and the Employability Skills module that DGT prescribes for every trade.
Our purpose
To give every trainee who walks through the gate a skill that is genuinely employable, the discipline to apply it safely, and a certificate that opens doors anywhere in the country.
What we aim for
- Practical competence first. A certificate means little if the holder cannot do the work. Assessment is built around what a trainee can actually produce.
- Safety as a habit. Safe working practice is taught from the first week and enforced throughout, because it is what employers notice first.
- A route to work. The Training & Placement Cell keeps contact with employers in the region and helps trainees into jobs, apprenticeships under NAPS, or self-employment.
- Access for the local community. The institute exists to serve the young people of this block and the blocks around it, whatever their background.

Nine courses are available, covering the electrical, mechanical, civil and computing streams.
