Government Industrial Training Institute, Canning-I is a craftsman training institute established in 2016 at Tangrakhali, Canning, in the district of South 24 Parganas. It functions under the Department of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development, Government of West Bengal, and is affiliated to the National Council for Vocational Training under the Craftsman Training Scheme.
The institute runs on the Public Private Partnership (PTP) model. Its function is to deliver trade training in the courses notified by the Directorate General of Training, conduct the prescribed examinations through the State Council, and assist trainees towards employment, apprenticeship and self-employment.
The Principal is the head of the institute and is responsible for its academic, administrative and financial functioning. Group Instructors and Instructors are responsible for the delivery of trade theory and practical training in accordance with the prescribed syllabus. Administrative staff handle admission records, examination correspondence, stores and accounts.
Academic and administrative decisions are taken by the Principal within the powers delegated by the Directorate of Industrial Training, West Bengal, and in accordance with the rules of the Craftsman Training Scheme and State Government orders in force.
The institute follows the Craftsman Training Scheme syllabi, the training norms and the affiliation norms notified by the Directorate General of Training, together with orders issued from time to time by the Directorate of Industrial Training, West Bengal.
The institute holds and uses the Craftsman Training Scheme syllabi, DGT affiliation norms, State admission rules, examination instructions of the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Training, trainee admission and attendance records, stores and stock registers, and service records of staff.

Members of the public may meet the Principal during office hours. Enquiries and grievances may be submitted through this website, by email or in writing. Parents are invited to the institute for the annual function and for meetings notified from time to time.
The Institute Management Committee, constituted in accordance with the norms of the Directorate General of Training, oversees the functioning of the institute. Details of its composition are available from the office.

Staff of the institute are paid in accordance with the pay structure notified by the Government of West Bengal for their respective posts, and under the terms of the Public Private Partnership arrangement where applicable. Details are available from the office on request.
The institute does not maintain an independent budget. Funds are received and accounted for through the Directorate of Industrial Training, West Bengal.
Trainees receive stipends, fee concessions and scholarships as notified by the Government of West Bengal and the Government of India, including scholarships for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Class, minority and differently-abled trainees. Applications are processed through the relevant government portals.
The institute does not grant any concession, permit or authorisation other than the fee concessions and scholarships referred to above.
